Wonderful Trip to London and a Visit to Liberty’s Famous Fabric Floor
We recently took a wonderful trip to our capital city, London and for me, that could only mean one thing… a visit to the beautiful Liberty store.
Well, more specifically… Floor 4 of Liberty, the quilting and fabric floor!
For many quilters and fabric lovers, a trip to Liberty is firmly on the bucket list, and I completely understand why. It’s one of those places that feels inspiring the moment you step inside. I feel very lucky to be able to visit at least once a year and explore the newest fabric collections they’ve released.
The main floor is packed full of the newest Tana Lawn fabrics.
If you’re not familiar with Tana Lawn, it is Liberty’s trademarked cotton fabric, famous for feeling and behaving almost like silk. It has a beautiful softness and drape and it is incredibly popular for dressmaking and clothing.
But yes… it can also be used in quilting! If you watched any Quilt Tube's recently - you will have seen my Liberty Sampler quilt and I have used quilting cotton mixed in with Tana Lawn. It does handle differently and you need to pin A LOT because it will shift and move about. I'm not sure I would make a full quilt with Tana Lawn unless it was an English Paper Piecing quilt.
One of the things I love most about Liberty is that everywhere you look there is something beautiful and inspiring.
There were tables full of pre-packed Tana Lawn mini bundles, beautifully sewn gifts, project kits, and so many creative ideas around every corner. It’s impossible not to leave feeling inspired.
Would you like a full tour?
If you’d love to see more of Liberty, I filmed lots of video footage during the visit and shared my fabric shopping haul in my Quilt Tube episode
It’s the next best thing to coming along with me in person!
Final Thoughts
A visit to Liberty is always such a treat. Whether you love quilting cottons, dressmaking fabrics, colour inspiration, or simply beautiful creative spaces, it really is a special place to explore.
If visiting Liberty is on your bucket list, I hope this gives you a little taste of what awaits you.
Have you ever visited Liberty, or is it somewhere you’d love to go one day? Let me know!
